Planning exotic honeymoons is easier today with the use of the Internet and Email. But more than ever, couples are also planning destination weddings, in which all their guests meet them in another state or even a foreign country. The reasons are many and varied, but the primary reality is that couples want a truly unique and extended experience with their family and friends.

It is important to realize that even though you are planning a wedding in a foreign country, you will still have the usual concerns and worries with additional stress of something going wrong in a different location. Aside from making travel reservations and accommodations for the group, you need to consider local legal issues. A marriage license, a decree of divorce (if applicable), a passport, or a birth certificate may be required. Anyone planning to marry in a foreign resort should given serious consideration to hiring a local Wedding Consultant for direction and advice and an on-location Wedding Consultant at the destination.

The on-location Consultant will see that you have all the required documentation, that every detail is planned long before your arrival and that you have competent wedding vendors with proper contracts. She can even assist you if you choose to bring in some of your own vendors (e.g. your own photographer, floral designer, videographer, etc.). She will check that each person is properly picked up at the airport and given the planned-for-accommodations, and that your guests are well rested from travel before they begin the schedule of any local tours and sightseeing that she has prepared with you for in advance. She can also suggest local customs that will make your wedding truly unique, one that your friends will talk about for a very long time.
